Packaging Design Trends Shaping 2026

Packaging briefs have changed shape over the past two years. Sustainability claims are being scrutinized more closely, shelf competition has intensified across nearly every category, and unboxing content on social platforms means packaging now has to perform on camera, not just in hand.

A few patterns we’re seeing across current projects: bolder, more confident typography replacing timid minimalism; material choices being treated as a brand decision, not just a production one; QR-driven storytelling that extends packaging into digital content; and modular systems that let a single brand identity flex across dozens of SKUs without a redesign every season.

The common thread is that packaging is being asked to do more strategic work than before — it’s often the only brand touchpoint a customer encounters before deciding to buy.
